This weekend is pheasant opener in South Dakota.
Here’s a list of fine’s you could receive if you break the law while hunting. Also, at the bottom are a few photos from my four-day weekend duck hunts.
Major fines given out during pheasant season:
(All fines are listed with costs that would be included in court fees.)
Shooting a hen (Possibly written two ways)
-Hunting game during a closed season: $220, 1-year loss of hunting privileges
-Protected species: $120
Shooting over the limit
-1-3 birds over: $116/bird
-4-6 birds over: $141/bird, 1-year loss of hunting privileges
-7-plus birds over: Mandatory court appearance
Trespass
-Unknowingly (Mistakenly crosses into private land, which is not posted): $145
-Knowingly (Purposely hunts land without permission or posted land): $270
Illegal road hunting (Three classifications)
-Wrongful road right of way hunting: $95
-Hunting within 660 feet of livestock or a building, which is posted: Mandatory court appearance
-Hunting within 660 feet of livestock or a building, which is not posted: $145
Hunting without a license
-Not having proper licensing to hunt small game: $270, 1-year loss of hunting privileges
Littering
-Disposing of bird remains on public hunting grounds or private land without permission: $270
Shooting before/after hours
-Less than 15 minutes: $95
-15-30 minutes: $120
-More than 30 minutes: $170, 1-year loss of hunting privileges
